Long time no post!

So sorry it has been a long time since I posted.  Real life has been getting in the way of the mini world.  I finally made time to stain and finish the hard wood floors and tried to install them today.  I am not 100% happy with the places that I had to butt the pieces together. I will probably do some sanding and then see how it looks.... I will post some pics soon....

Testing Out the Furniture

Hello out there...... We are stuck in the house due to more snow in eastern NC, so it was the perfect excuse to work some more on the wallpaper. I had done all of the papering except for the master bedroom and the attic.  There is still a ton of trim to put on, but I think I am going to have to order some more. I have also got to find a way to trim between the floors in the stair well.

I finished the wallpapering in the house and I couldn't wait to see what my furniture would look like in the house.  It has been too cold to stain the floor pieces so I will have to wait to put that in. I know that I need some more hardwood flooring as well.  I am using red oak, but I am going to stain and varnish it.

The sewing room side of the attic. If you know me at all, you know there will have to be a sewing room in any house I build.

Wallpapering Day Two!

Well that weather in NC is not cooperating with the school system, so this librarian got an unexpected day off. So....in between a little cleaning, ( I could not play all day) I worked some more on the wallpaper in the dollhouse.  I probably ought to give it a name.  Hmmm, I will think on that.  After enjoying a leisurely cup of coffee, I cut and fitted the paper for the pink bedroom and the hallway.  This was a tricky proposition because the bathroom "floats" in the space of the upstairs, leaving a hallway that you can't really see except through the door of the bathroom.
It still has to be finished and trimmed. . I decided not to put in its walls until I had wallpapered the back wall and put the trim molding on the windows.  I also decided to put in one of those little mini push in lights to keep everything from being a "black hole." I didn't have enough pink wallpaper for the pink room so I had to use a coordinating stripe there too.  Next house I will have a better idea of what kind of materials I need and how much....  I was able to paint and attach the trim on the back wall yeah!  I also trimmed out the window in the living room. It is really starting to look like a home.  I am scaring my self!

Getting Started on wallpapering!

I know I just posted, but I had trouble getting my pictures to post the other day.  I had to wait until tonight to post the wiring pics.  Each step that I take on my house gives me a day or two of "pause" while I kind of work out the details in my mind.

I have been working through the color schemes inside of the house and hoping that they coincide with the wallpaper that I have already bought.  I did not read far enough ahead in my how- to book and did not realize that most miniature rooms take 3 sheets of any particular wall paper.  I only bought two sheets of the ones I really wanted to use in the living room  and dining room. On top of that,  My dining room sits kind of behind (beyond) the kitchen and therefore the rooms visually connect.  It turns out that the kitchen wall paper that I wanted to use clashes with the dining room wall paper.  I had wanted to do "bead board" in the kitchen with wallpaper above it and chair rail in the dining room.  I had to adjust my plans.  I think it will be alright..

.

The paper is on.. I will cut out the windows and door when it dries
Not sure how this is going to work.....there will be chair rail and moldings.....

Electrifying News!

Well, here is the reverse side of the dollhouse.  It is not as pretty as the front side yet.  This is a learning process and I am definitely stretching my crafting skills!  The tape lines running about an inch from the floor are the wiring for electric lights.  I had to anticipate where I would want to have lights and run the wire to those places.  You install a "run" of the tape and then plug it in and test it with a little probe.  This has to be done before you install any wall paper.  I have completed this step of the process and tested the wires.  It all lights up....all the way to the attic!  Whoo  whoooo!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to one and all.  We had a day full of fun, family and friends.  We are now relaxing and waiting for a possible "snow event."  I have a secret (not now!) wish for some snow so that I can use my new dremel tool that my hubby gave me for Christmas.  I am going to try to finish the wiring on the dollhouse.  I will try and take a picture so that I can remember where the lines are.  Smile!

My Mind is full of Minis!

Hello, and welcome to my blog.  I want to follow the progress of my dollhouse as I complete it (well that's the plan anyway) after all these years.  I have always been a fan of miniatures.  I think it may have started when I saw the Colleen Moore dollhouse in Chicago as a young girl. My hubby bought me a dollhouse kit our first Christmas together and 26 years and two children later, I am finally getting to work on it.  This is the messy looking front of my L-shaped farmhouse.  I figured if I decorated the front for Christmas, no one would want to see the messy insides.
